I’m honored to welcome you to 2025 and thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your President. I’m continuing what’s become a recent tradition for MGEC of serving my 2nd term as MGEC President. Our most recent Past Presidents (Dan Sullivan in 2023 and Fernando Nacionales in 2024) also recently served their second terms as President. Thank you to both of them for their leadership and dedication to serving the MGEC membership!
2025 will definitely be a busy year for MGEC. We hope to begin negotiating an updated contract with MMB later this year. We will provide updates as they are available.
Hearing your testimony about ideas for bargaining is invaluable. Please participate in surveys, meetings, etc. to make your voice heard! Preparation meetings for Coalition Insurance Bargaining begin in late February. MGEC is here to serve our members.
Some members have expressed concerns about the future of their programs given potential federal changes. Other members have shared concerns about the employer making changes to the contract terms and conditions. MGEC is here to support you through the many challenges that our members face on a daily basis.
I am a Principal Engineer at the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). In my current role, I work with communities across the state to help them obtain funding to replace lead service lines. Prior to coming to MDH in 2019, I worked at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) for over 12 years. I live in Rosemount with my wife and our dog Rico. Outside of work, my schedule is usually busy with things like working in the penalty box for youth hockey tournaments, cheering on Minnesota’s sports teams, or managing a team of volunteers for the PGA Tour’s 3M Open golf tournament in Blaine.
I look forward to serving you this year. Please feel free to reach out to MGEC with any questions or concerns. Our staff can be reached at mgec@mgec.org and I can be reached directly at mgecpresident@mgec.org
Sincerely,
Corey Mathisen
