Members voted to approve the tentative agreement for a new contract for 2019-2021. At the time of the vote, 995 MGEC members were eligible to vote. Of the 725 members who voted, 88.5% (642) voted to approve the contract. Next steps: MMB will submit the contract to the legislature for approval before it will take effect. Most likely it will be added as a floor amendment to HF3732 and SF4006. No date has been set for the legislature to vote on these bills, due to the continually evolving situation with COVID-19. On Monday, January 27, 2020, the MGEC Board discussed the tentative agreement at great length. The majority of the board voted to send the contract language to the membership with a recommendation to accept the contract. The board determined that additional information will be sent to the membership in an effort to help members determine their own vote. MGEC and the State have reached a Tentative Agreement
On January 22, 2020, after the second day of mediation the MGEC Contract Negotiations Team entered into a tentative agreement for the 2019-2021 MGEC contract. This was the ninth total day of negotiations. Shortly after 6PM, and after significant conversations among the team, the Bureau of Mediation Services (BMS) mediator, and our attorney; as well as several contract language exchanges, MGEC and the State agreed on contract language and compensation for this contract cycle. Our team made a conscious and deliberate effort to develop proposals that addressed both our membership as a whole, and ... Read More >>
2019-2021 Contract Negotiation Update
Thursday, December 19th, marked the 8th time MGEC met with representatives from the State’s bargaining team in 2019, and the first day of mediation. There is some small progress to report. The MGEC negotiation team and the State signed a Memorandum of Understanding; agreeing to implement the new insurance coverage effective January 1, 2020 and to also honor several, previously agreed upon contract language changes (Tentative Agreements) in the new contract when it is implemented. While MGEC and the State agree on most remaining contract issues, there continues to be a significant difference ... Read More >>
MGEC Negotiation Update
Five days of negotiations were originally scheduled between the MGEC team and the State team at the MnDOT Training Center in Shoreview, MN. We met on each of those days and have now scheduled two additional days for meetings on October 31 and November 1. The negotiation process has been productive and proceeding well overall. On the State side, Paula Graff took over for Austin Neese as the lead negotiator for the State. Derrick Dasenbrock, MGEC President, continues serving as MGEC lead. Each side has now made several complete proposal “passes” to the other side. There have been several ... Read More >>
Contract Negotiation Update
Your MGEC negotiating team began negotiations with the State one week ago on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. It seems fitting that negotiations began the day after Labor Day, a U.S. Federal Holiday since 1894 which honors the American labor movement and the collective bargaining associated with organized labor. Our negotiating team held regular meetings throughout the summer to develop our contract opening proposals. Based on the experience of the Executive Board, dialogue at several on-site member meetings across the state, and direct responses from 684 members through a recent member ... Read More >>
