MGEC received the Early Retirement Incentive (ERI) MOU from MMB on December 1st, 2020. MGEC has a process that allows our Executive Committee to approve modifications to the contract when additional benefits are provided, and no harm is done to anyone. This approval was completed by the Executive Committee on December 1st, 2020. We provided MMB with the signed MOU on December 2nd, 2020. Conference Call with State Labor Unions Governor Walz held a conference phone call with the state employee unions today. His message included some of the following: Thanks to state employees; he knows state leadership is asking a lot of employees. The State created COVID leave so employees wouldn't have to take vacation or sick leave. Being part of a union is sacred to him. Our labor contracts are a top priority to them. Deferred Compensation Matching Funds
The current MGEC contract provides for the employer to match the first $300 and employee contributes to his/her deferred compensation account. Each year, to get the $300 matching funds, every employee needs to make an election to do one of the following. The employee can’t do both (get the deferred compensation match and convert vacation accrual to deferred compensation) in the same fiscal year. Our construction project is complete! MGEC turned 50 last year, and we determined it was time for some much-needed updates to our constitution, policies, committee structure, and member outreach.
