On Wednesday, November 5th, a “meet and confer” meeting was held between senior MnDOT staff and MGEC. The goal of a meet and confer is to identify issues that affect members within a specific agency that don’t rise to the level of a solution that needs to come from the bargaining table. This meeting’s agenda included clarification on the Student Loan Reimbursement program, and discussions on concern over changes to teleworking affecting some members, and our mileage issue over reimbursements for meals while traveling. A MGEC member reached out to us about being denied a student loan ... Read More >>

Time Entry for Overnight Workers
Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB)– the state agency that manages operations for its various agencies – announced that they are altering how they expect time to be entered for employees who have workdays that stretch across calendar days. Specifically, this is almost always employees who work overnight. While most MGEC members work “regular” workdays, we do have members who work overnight and we want to make sure they are aware of the change. In order to better comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act, MMB wants hours worked to be recorded on the actual day they are worked. The ... Read More >>

2024 Golf Tournament & Results
THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the MGEC Annual Golf Tournament! With clear skies and a temp in the low 80s, we could not have had better weather! We had 36 MGEC players across 12 teams playing alongside 6 sponsor players from WSB and Bolton and Menk! Our players had a great time on the Front 9 at Oak Marsh in Maplewood. We wanted to try something different this year by running 9 holes instead of 18. We welcome your feedback – is this something we should continue, or should we go back to 18 holes? Let us know! This event would not be possible without the support of our ... Read More >>
Camp Ripley: MGEC Lunch Meeting
On Monday, July 8th, Tony Kelly travelled to Camp Ripley to meet with our Military Affairs group to discuss current MGEC issues over amazing pizza from The Main Gate. While this is an off year for bargaining, the subject of bargaining for a better contract is always on the minds of members, and this lunch discussion wasn’t the exception. Even if state of Minnesota bargaining units don’t sit at the negotiation table until next year, there is still work to do to prepare for bargaining and discussion included what it takes to get a public employer to make a move. Other similar bargaining units ... Read More >>
Engineers and Land Surveyors Professional License Renewal
The deadline to renew your professional license is June 30, 2024. We recommend double checking confirmation of your license renewal. The employer will do a license verification after July 1st to ensure your license, if one is required for your job, has been renewed. Each cycle we learn of individuals who forgot to renew or who thought they renewed, but the process was incomplete. Renewing late costs a lot of money and could result in discipline costing even more. Better safe than sorry so make sure your license is renewed. Renew your license at: https://mn.gov/aelslagid/renewals.html Find ... Read More >>
