Dear MGEC Members,
Thank you to our Full Members who utilized their opportunity to vote regarding the State’s last offer for a new agreement between the State of Minnesota and the Minnesota Government Engineering Council (MGEC). We asked our membership to vote on it, voter turnout was high, and the results are in!
Ballots were sent to all Full Members. Electronic voting took placed between December 6th and December 12th. The membership HAS VOTED TO ACCEPT THE OFFER.
What happens next? MGEC will be working with MMB to confirm dates when the new pay rate will be implemented. Then the subsequent date when they will issue backpay. We’ll share the specifics when we have them.
What can you do to impact bargaining for the 2025 – 2027 Contract? While a strong majority of the votes were to accept the agreement, there were still votes to reject it. We look forward to hearing more from membership about what they liked or didn’t like about this agreement. MGEC bargains to provide contract (working conditions, wages, insurance, etc.) improvements for all members. But, towards the end of bargaining the employer often makes final offers that impacts some positions differently than others. We can take the pattern set by other bargaining units and settle early or we can work longer, seeking more for all, but may end up with more only for some. Over the years, the latter has provided additional gains for varying positions. This is something MMB does and is common with other groups bargaining with MMB. We will begin our process for the 2025 -2027 contract in January of 2025. Our team can include any Full Member. We encourage anyone who’s interested in the process to let us know so you can be included on the team next time.
Thank you again to everyone who took an opportunity to make your voice heard and voted!
