MGEC members were able to get some sun, compete for golf prizes, and participate in the Annual Meeting & Dinner on Thursday, September 29th. Held at Oak Marsh Golf Course, the event offered a much-welcomed recreational opportunity for MGECers to reconnect with each other in person – the first such opportunity since COVID.
Sponsored by WSB and Hiway Credit Union, the shotgun-start golf event brought out foursomes from different parts of Minnesota, competing against each other but all united by the MGEC labor agreement. Awards for play were given to… results here.
MGEC is very proud to have awarded Faith Pemble and Erik DeSmith the Family Member scholarships; we want to do our part to encourage students to pursue engineering as a rewarding profession. As an added bonus both Erik DeSmith and his father Steven DeSmith were in attendance to accept the award. Aaron Hinz was awarded the Connie Minetor Memorial Scholarship and Fernando Nacionales was given the Distinguished Citizenship Award for his outstanding contributions not only to MGEC but the country through his service.
President Corey Mathison then opened the annual meeting and the officers made their annual reports. The past year was recounted, the treasurer’s report was read, and the budget for 2023 was approved. Executive Director Dana Wheeler, celebrating his 20th year with MGEC in November, gave his report which charts the direction of MGEC as a whole, with initiatives ranging from preparing for the next round of bargaining to ensuring that MGEC is well-positioned to meet the challenges of the future.
We look forward to next year’s event, and other events in the meantime! If you’d like to learn more about MGEC events or help plan them, please let us know!
