Corey Mathisen gave the President’s update as Fernando Nacionales was on active duty with the Guard. Blake Nelson moved to approve the agenda, Ben Carlson-Stehlin seconded. The motion passed.
Corey thanked members for attending, and thanked MGEC staff for all they do. Exec committee members, board members, and staff were introduced. Many were in attendance. Corey encouraged members to be involved on committees, even if they aren’t on the board, and encouraged attendance at board meetings.
Mike Rude announced scholarship and award winners. Past President awards were presented to Corey Mathisen and Dan Sullivan, and 3 family member scholarships were awarded to children of MGEC members.
Benton Campbell shared that future annual meeting minutes would be approved by the Board at their October meeting, as this is easier for everyone. The 2023 minutes were moved for approval by Carroll Aasen, seconded by Bruce Henningsgaard, and approved.
Wes Leksell presented the finances of the organization in the treasurer’s report. He reviewed the major line items in the budget, discussed the deficit, and plans moving forward. The majority of expenses are staffing. Wes plans to develop and institute a 5-year plan for the organization’s finances. Bruce Henningsgaard moves to approve the budget, Carroll Aasen seconds. Motion passes.
Dana Wheeler gave the executive director’s report, and reviewed the ways the organization serves members.
Donna Blackwell gave a membership update, including that MGEC had hit the milestone of 1,000 full members. Our membership rates continue to be very high compared to other state unions.
Blake Nelson gave an insurance bargaining update, including tweaks to vision insurance, mental health coverage, premiums likely to increase ~4% in January, and a note that large (>100k) claims are a big portion of the SEGIP budget as we are self-insured.
Tony Kelly gave a Labor Relations update, and discussed an ongoing grievance and ways we reach new members.
